Discover Kosice by Hire Car
Kosice is the second-largest city in Slovakia, a major European transit hub, and the site of an international airport.
The major city, with a population of about 240,000, is located on the Hornad River in the east of the country, not far from the borders with Poland, Hungary and Ukraine.

Sights in Kosice
Numerous wooded areas and parks green the cityscape, which is dominated by opulent buildings, such as the Bishop’s Palace and the Andrassy House, especially in the centre.
The centre of the city is the complex around the monumental St Elizabeth’s Cathedral, the largest church in the country. On its south side is the Michaelis Church.
The ensemble of buildings also includes the Urban Tower, which was still used as a bell tower for the cathedral in the Middle Ages. Its historic bell stands today directly in front of the tower entrance.
In addition to the State Theatre, the Roma Theatre, which gives voice to the free Roma and Sinti people, is also part of the Kosice cultural landscape.
Worth seeing are the botanical and zoological gardens and especially the Anicka recreation area with a mineral water spring and extensive children’s playground.
Leisure activities in Kosice
Numerous outdoor pools and sports facilities are popular meeting places in the summer.
With a hire car, the beautiful castles and palaces of eastern Slovakia can be quickly reached from Kosice. Several dripstone or ice caves are open for guided tours.
In winter, the ski centres in the area, such as Kavecany, Jahodna or Plejsy are inviting with very good, snow-sure slopes, cross-country skiing trails, snow parks and child care.
