Sights in Sant Antoni de Portmany
After all, just under 20,000 inhabitants live here. Of these, around 400 residents are of German origin, so tourists shouldn’t be surprised to find pretzel bakers and a country inn. San Antonio is located in the very north of the southernmost Balearic island. Here, the ferry also starts to the island Formentera that is hardly developed for tourism and therefore particularly attractive. A day trip that really no one should miss.
San Antonio’s history goes back over 2000 years, already the ancient Romans had installed a fishing port here. After that, San Antonio was a pure fishing village for over 2000 years, until Ibiza was seized by mass tourism. Quickly hotel strongholds were built, restaurants and discotheques were built and opened. But its picturesque harbour in the equally picturesque bay and the long sandy beaches San Antonio has kept and made it one of the most popular holiday resorts for Germans.
Cafés and disco in Sant Antoni
The Café del Mar and the Eden are the most famous discos in Ibiza and San Antonio. Also famous is the Egg of San Antonio, a work of art located in the port. The statue and its unusual shape date back to Columbus’ idea of the egg, no wonder in a city that nourished shipping and fishing for more than 2000 years.
