Alcudia – more than just a tourist destination

A defiant city wall surrounds the town, which existed when the Romans landed on the island in 123 BC.

The city wall itself, however, is of more recent origin. It was built from the end of the 13th century because pirate raids were becoming more frequent.

Once you have passed through one of the town gates, a picturesque town of medieval alleys awaits you, exuding the spirit of times gone by.

Discover Roman history in Alcudia

Visit the Església Parroquial Sant Jaume, most of which was built in the 16th century. Visitors are particularly captivated by the beautiful rose window of the nave. Afterwards, you’ll have the chance to delve even deeper into the city’s history and see the Ruinas de Pollentia.

These ruins date back to when the Romans ruled the city. You might get lucky and be able to attend one of the performances held at the Teatre Romá, an ancient amphitheatre, from time to time during the summer.

If you want to wander further into Roman history, a visit to the Museum Monográfic de Pollentia is recommended. Here you can take a look at a wide variety of excavation pieces. Afterwards, however, you should simply stroll through the alleys, sit down in a café or bar and enjoy the city life with a cool drink.

Discover the surroundings of Alcudia

There is also plenty to discover in the area surrounding the city. Visit the town of Polença, considered by many to be the art capital of the island.

Numerous galleries but also shops with interesting designer goods make the tour in the old town a pleasure. Nice restaurants and cafés invite you to linger afterwards.

The ascent to the Calvary El Calvari is also worthwhile. From here you have a breathtaking view of the city and its surroundings.

Another delightful excursion is the drive to Cap de Formentor.

The route takes you through wild countryside. Once at the Cap, the island’s northernmost point, you can see as far as Menorca in good weather.

Discover the nightlife of Alcudia

There is no nightlife to speak of in the old town. Like everywhere else in Spain, people eat late. Afterwards, you might have a nightcap in a bar and then head home.

If you still want to shake a leg, you have to go to one of the discos near the harbour. We recommend the well-known discotheque Menta at Avenida Toucan 5.

Discover the special hotel

Just in the old town you will find many small and beautiful hotels. You might choose the Petit Hotel Ca’n Simó. Housed in a 19th-century mansion, the hotel offers every comfort.

Seven individually and luxuriously furnished rooms await the guest. Here you experience a small journey through time, but do not have to do without the comforts of modern times.

Finding the good restaurant

Countless restaurants vie for customers’ favour in Alcudia. If you want to experience real Mallorcan cuisine, you’ll find it at the Ca’n Costa restaurant.

Situated in an old mansion dating back to 1594, the restaurant offers the best dishes at fair prices.
