Discover Cordoba by Hire Car
Cordoba, located in the heart of Andalusia, is one of the oldest and most beautiful cities in Spain. You can still experience the city’s eventful history up close today.
When strolling through the Juderia, the former Jewish quarter and historic city centre of Cordoba, you will not only find evidence of Moorish architecture, numerous taverns and restaurants invite you to observe the picturesque maze of alleys with its colourful hustle and bustle.
The heart of Cordoba is undoubtedly the Mezquita, which is both a place of worship and a mosque. It combines numerous architectural styles from different eras, and with its massive dimensions of 24,000 square kilometres and almost 1000 ornate columns, it is one of the most impressive buildings in the world.
Own Cordoba
Cordoba is also known for its numerous Ferias, the highlight is the fair Feria de Mayo in May, seven days the whole city celebrates a lively festival. Not only in Cordoba itself, but also in the hinterland there is much to discover. The city is surrounded by the largest olive-growing area in Spain.
Scattered in the Sierra Morena are numerous villages, which have to offer not only art-historically valuable buildings. The well-developed transport network invites you to explore the area by hire car.
Located in the mountains north of Cordoba, you will find the hermitage of Las Ermitas de Cordoba, which has been inhabited by monks for centuries. From here, you can enjoy unparalleled views of the city.

Sights in Cordoba
Start your stroll at the city’s most famous structure. The massive Mezquita attracts streams of visitors from all over the world.
Built between 785 and 1009, it wows with the beautiful mosque inside. A whopping 865 columns support the space spanned by handsomely decorated arches.
This gives the mosque an atmosphere of harmony and lightness. The visitor feels transported into a story from “One Thousand and One Nights”. Back in the present, the next thing to do is to visit the cathedral that the Spanish built here in the 16th century.
Besides the elegance of the mosque, the church makes a rather ostentatious impression – too many ornaments seem to have been ordered by the builders for the cathedral. But where else can you visit a cathedral and a mosque on the same site?
Discover the old town of Cordoba
After visiting the Mezquita, you can stroll around the old town for a bit. Stop by the Museo Taurino to learn about the history of bullfighting. Or check out the pretty synagogue, built in 1315. It is the last one in the city. At one time there were over 300 Jewish places of worship in Cordoba.
A visit to the Plaza de la Corredera could be the end of the city tour. Here half of Córdoba meets in one of the numerous bars. With a cool drink you can let the day pass in review.
Find the special restaurant
Córdoba is a big city, there is no shortage of good restaurants. Visit Bodegas Campos, for example.
Here, the traditional dishes of the region are dished up. You’ll be dining in an old bodega, that is, a Spanish winery. The quality of the food is of the very highest order.
Find the special hotel
In a city with such a rich history, even the hotel is allowed to exude the spirit of days gone by. We recommend the Hospes Palacio del Baílío.
You’ll reside in a palace built from the 16th to the 18th century. The stylishly furnished rooms offer every comfort and the service also leaves nothing to be desired.
The worthwhile destination
Visit the town of Baena in the southeast of the province of Córdoba. It’s just 62 kilometres from Cordoba city. However, you should still allow more than an hour for the drive.
In Baena, an oil museum awaits you, where you can learn all about the production of olive oil. True to style, the museum is housed in an old oil mill.
Once you’ve acquired a taste for olive oil, the Núñez de Prado oil mill near the town park is a great place to buy top-quality olive oil. A stroll through the town is also worthwhile. Snow-whitewashed cottages line the streets, and life seems more sedate here than in Cordoba.
Sit down in a café, soak up the sun and plan your next excursions around your enchanting holiday destination.
