Another highlight of the city is in any case the Palacio de los Valdés, dating from 1590. In the basement of the medieval villa, remains of Roman baths were found, indicating a settlement at that time.

A journey through Gijon’s history is offered by the city’s ancient 16th-century clock tower, which was rebuilt in 1989. The tower’s six platforms take visitors through individual eras of Gijon up to the present day, with archaeological ruins and exhibits on display.
