At one time, grain processing was one of the town’s main sources of income. You can learn about this period at the Mill City Museum, housed in an old mill. The museum is open Tuesday through Saturday from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm and on Sunday from 12:00 pm. Tickets are eleven dollars.
There is an art exhibit worth seeing on the cultural history of the past 5,000 years at the Minneapolis Institute of Arts. The show includes about 80,000 exhibits in the museum building, which opened back in 1915. Open Tuesday through Saturday from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm. On Sunday, the doors open one hour later. A ticket costs $12 Tuesday through Friday and $14 on weekends.
Maybe now you feel like heading to the Twin Cities of St. Paul to see the magnificent Saint Paul Cathedral, built from 1906 to 1915. It impresses with its richly decorated interior with beautiful ceiling paintings.
The good old days come alive when you stroll through Summit Ave afterwards. Some of the old Victorian-style houses still stand there. The James J. Jill House, once owned by a railroad magnate, can also be seen in all its glory from the inside. The house is open from Wednesday to Saturday from 10:00 am to 3:30 pm. On Sunday, you can check it out starting at 1:00 pm. A ticket costs nine dollars. At the end of your city tour, you’ll have the opportunity to just drift through the streets for a bit, soaking up the laid-back vibe of the twin cities of Minneapolis and St. Paul.
