Exploring MANHATTAN WITH A HIRE CAR
Manhattan is part of the American Big Apple, as New Yorkers like to call their city, and is located in the Hudson River.
Through 21 tunnels and 22 bridges, the vibrant metropolis is connected to the mainland.
Currently, about 1.5 million people live here. The Manhattan skyline with its countless skyscrapers is one of the most famous in the world.
There are probably few places in the world where so many museums, theaters, restaurants, clubs and bars crowd into a small space as in Manhattan.
And there are also many delightful destinations within the surrounding area that can be easily reached by hire car.
VIEWS TO SEE IN MANHATTAN
Perhaps first get an overview and visit the Empire State Building. An elevator will take you to the 102nd floor. From there you have a magnificent view over the city and the surrounding area. A ticket costs 44 dollars. The Empire State Building is open daily from 8:00 to 02:00 at night. So you have the opportunity to experience Manhattan by day and night.
Afterwards, you may feel like discovering the “heart of capitalism” and stroll down Wall Street. There you’ll also find Federal Hall, the city’s city hall, which was built in the 19th century. The mighty entrance, supported by columns and featuring a bronze statue of George Washington, impresses visitors.
Afterwards, you can experience the city’s green lung, Central Park. In the enchantingly landscaped green area, it is wonderful to stroll. You can also take a look at the park from a carriage.
The next stop on the city tour is a must: the famous Museum of Modern Art. This museum was founded back in 1929 and houses an art collection that is unparalleled anywhere in the world. Over 150,000 exhibits, from architecture to design to paintings leave visitors in awe. The museum is open daily from 10:00 am to 5:30 pm. On Friday, you can visit the exhibit until 8:00 pm. A ticket costs $25.
To finish your little tour, you could stroll over to Battery Park. From there, a ferry will take you to the small island where the Statue of Liberty, the symbol of independent America, stands. A ticket that allows you to climb up to the crown of the Statue of Liberty costs $20. You will be rewarded with a fantastic view of the New York skyline. Then in the evening, it’s definitely worth buying a ticket for a Broadway show. The spectacular performances are famous all over the world.

FIND A GOOD RESTAURANT
In Manhattan, epicureans will find their heaven. Whether you want Vietnamese, Italian, Kenyan, Australian or Brazilian food, there’s something for everyone in Manhattan. We recommend an all-American restaurant, Eleven Madison Park. Here, locally sourced produce is transformed into culinary delights using traditional recipes. The restaurant has been awarded three stars by the Guide Michelin.
DISCOVERING A BEAUTIFUL HOTEL
Whether you’re looking for an ultra-modern design hotel or a nostalgic hostel, everyone can find the right hotel in New York. We recommend -without modesty- the Waldorf Astoria. This traditional hotel opened in 1893 and still offers travellers a world of luxury and style. The excellently trained staff reads almost every wish from the guest’s eyes and the rooms have every comfort.
A REWARDING DESTINATION IN THE SURROUNDINGS
Do as the wealthy New Yorkers do and steer the hire car to the Hamptons. It will take you about two hours. In the Hamptons, you’ll find gorgeous nature, beautiful beaches and manicured mansions. And while you take a break from the hustle and bustle of Manhattan, you can think about which destinations you would like to head to next with the hire car.
