Las Vegas: Gambler’s town with gorgeous surroundings
Not only New York, but also the “Sin City” Las Vegas never sleeps. Here you can experience something at any time of day or night and try your luck in the casinos.
The excellent hotels attract visitors from all over the world.
And with a hire car, you can easily explore the charming surroundings. We’ve put together a few tips for your trip.
Receiving the hire car
The hire car center is located just under five kilometers from the international airport. A shuttle bus runs every five minutes. When you arrive at Terminal One, follow the signs that say “Ground Transportation”.
The buses leave outside the airport between doors 10 and 11. Also at Terminal 3, you must first follow the signs that say “Ground Transportation”. Here, buses depart between doors 51 and 54 in the west and between doors 55 and 58 in the east
Finding the right hire car
Las Vegas is the wrong city to use common sense when looking for a hire car. Do as the Americans do and rent your vehicle according to the motto “Big is beautiful”. That way you will have the most fun on the endless American highways.
Hire car prices
Hire car prices in Las Vegas are in the mid-range. When there are a lot of tourists in the city, the demand increases and so do the prices. To play it safe, book your hire car well in advance.

Conquering jet lag
The eight to nine hour time difference between Las Vegas and Germany gets to many people. Use the hire car only for short trips in the first few days until you get used to Vegas time. For more tips on dealing with jet lag, check out our special.
Insurance
To be on the safe side in the event of an accident, you should choose comprehensive insurance without an excess. In the case of liability, you should ensure that you have sufficient cover and, if in doubt, take out a so-called “traveller policy”. If people are injured in an accident, it can quickly become very expensive. You can find more tips on the subject of insurance in our special.
age limit
With most rental companies, you must be at least 25 years old to get your hire car at no extra charge. Younger drivers will be charged an extra fee. And if you’re younger than 21, most rental companies won’t give you a car at all.
Accessories
If you need accessories, such as a navigation device, you should ask the rental company before booking whether they also have this on offer and at what cost they rent it out.
Free kilometers
Unusually, you can drive unlimited miles in your hire car in Las Vegas. To be on the safe side, however, you should check with your rental company before renting the vehicle.
Customer Satisfaction Hire Car
Most of the customers are satisfied with the hire car in Las Vegas. However, since the operator of a station can always change, we recommend reading the latest customer reviews before booking.
Tank control
When renting, make sure that the rental company does not offer a so-called full/empty solution. With this variant you buy the full tank for a service fee and can return the car empty. However, since you will never manage to roll up to the rental station with the last drop of gas, you will always end up paying for it.
Safety Hire Car
In Las Vegas, you can usually expect to get a roadworthy hire car. However, test the vehicle’s lights and brakes before your first trip anyway.
Automatic on board
Even if you’re used to driving a manual car, you’ll almost always get an automatic in Las Vegas. But don’t worry, dealing with such cars is easier than you think. For more information on the subject, check out our special.
Bail
There are providers who charge the deposit for the hire car to your credit card and only transfer it back after you return the car. This can take time. It is better to choose a rental company that only blocks the amount due on your credit card and releases it when you return the car.
Sights in Las Vegas
A firework of fun – the Strip in Las Vegas
The most famous street in Las Vegas is the Strip. It runs through the suburbs of Paradise and Winchester and has a length of almost 7 kilometers.
Some of the most impressive hotels in the world have located there and outdo each other with spectacular shows as well as decorations. Colourful fountains rise in front of them, laser beams pierce the darkness and artificial volcanoes erupt with all their luminosity. It is a place of magic, imagination and pleasure. Thousands of people stroll the Strip as cars slowly move by on the two-lane roadway.
The undisputed stars of the fun mile are the hotels with their casinos, shows and attractions. Many of them are more than just places to stay. They are impressive worlds of experience, into which visitors from all over the world dive and become enchanted. In some of the hotels, there are regular shows by great stars and artists that guests usually only know from movies and television.
At the southern beginning of the Strip is the famous Little Church of the West, where many celebrities have said yes to each other. Below are the four-star hotels on the entertainment mile and by what magic they score.
The ornate hotel The Mirage with tropical flair
The Mirage opened in November 1989 and was the first mega resort in the entertainment city of Las Vegas. There are a total of 3,044 rooms spread over more than 30 floors. It has a tropical pool landscape and eleven restaurants, one of which has been decorated with original paintings by the artist Renoir.
A very special flair is added to The Mirage hotel by the Secret Garden, which opened in 1997. The exotic outdoor enclosure, founded by the artist duo Siegfried and Roy, is home to white tigers, snow tigers, white lions, llamas, snow leopards and black panthers. In addition, the theme of exoticism and the tropics is taken up in the entrance hall, which has been furnished with artificial palm trees and rushing waterfalls. The hotel’s theatre hosts impressive shows, which include performances by Cirque du Soleil.
The Mandalay Bay hotel as a dream in gold
One of the world’s largest hotels is the Mandalay Bay with its 4,766 rooms and suites. The gold-coloured barrel glazing of the huge complex is particularly striking. Like the other hotels on the Strip, this complex presents itself as a superlative experience hotel. Each tower has its own spa, which are connected by a generous pool landscape with wave pool as well as an artificial beach. Furthermore, a theater, a concert hall, various restaurants, a shopping mall and the aquarium facility “Shark Reef” belong to the Mandalay Bay.
The hotel is legendary and served as a backdrop for the television series Las Vegas. Also, the most significant part of the plot from the song “Me and my monkey” by Robbie Williams takes place in this impressive complex.
Elegance at THEhotel
THEhotel is part of the Mandalay Bay hotel, but is managed as a stand-alone complex. In terms of facade design, both hotels are similar, but inside they are very different. It has more than 1,117 suites which are impressive in size.
On the top floor, an elegant nightclub is located, which is named MiX. Next to it is a fine-dining restaurant run by Frenchman Alain Ducasse. The excellent view can be enjoyed while enjoying a tempting feast for the palate.
The legendary Hotel Caesars Palace
The 3,348-room Hotel Caesars Palace has long been an institution on the Strip. Already artists like Frank Sinatra and Liberace performed in the hotel, which was opened in 1966. The stately name says it all, so the complex is meant to reflect the lavish splendor of ancient Rome.
Famous motorcycle stuntman Evel Knievel jumped over the mighty fountain complex in 1967. David Copperfield, Céline Dion, Elton John and Cher have also made frequent guest appearances at Caesars Palace, performing on the stage of the Colosseum event building. The concert building is modeled after the ancient Colosseum in Rome.
Farther afield, there is the “Pussycatt Dolls Lounge,” where the musical group Pussycat Dolls perform. The culinary highlight in the complex is a Michelin-starred restaurant run by French Der Star chef Guy Savoy. The hotel’s casino served as the movie set for the 2008 box-office hit “Hangover.”
The tranquil Hotel Tropicana
With a room count of 1,658, the Tropicana tends to be one of the smaller hotels on the Strip. It has an entertaining casino scene and offers a wide variety of shows. In addition to musical acts like Gladys Knight, actors, comedians and magicians also perform.
One unusual attraction at the hotel, however, is the permanent “Las Vegas Mob Experience” exhibit, which explores the history of the mafia in the desert metropolis.
The entertaining MGM Grand
With more than 5,000 rooms, the MGM Grand is one of the largest hotels in the world. Much more impressive than the size of the hotel, however, is its entertainment program. For example, the complex includes the MGM Grand Garden Arena, which seats 15,100. World-renowned boxing matches have taken place there.
In the many other theaters, shows by Cirque du Soleil and David Copperfield can be marveled at. Of course, the complex also has nightclubs, a casino, restaurants and a shopping mall. Behind the MGM Grand is a spacious pool area with various swimming pools and a water stream.
With the Hotel Paris, a piece of France in Las Vegas
The Hotel Paris is a particular highlight on the Strip because of its design. The four-winged hotel tower stands behind a copy of the Eiffel Tower, which stands 164.6 meters tall. The legs of the structure are modeled after the Louvre and the Paris Opera House.
In the complex, guests will find many restaurants, a “French” shopping street, a theater and a convention center. What makes the event spaces special is that their hallways resemble the Hall of Mirrors at Versailles. On the roof of the large casino is an immense swimming pool. Artists such as the Jersey Boys, Taylor Hicks and hypnotist Anthony Cools round out the high entertainment factor from Hotel Paris.
Poolscapes and spectacular acts at the Monte Carlo
The hotel’s name is reflected in its lavish façade, while inside you’ll find various casinos. What makes this hotel special, however, are the six house-brewed beers and the impressive poolscape.
This is made up of three pools, one of which is reserved for VIP guests only. In one of the other pools, artificial waves reared up for ten minutes every ten minutes. The whirlpools and the “Lazy River” current channel also invite guests to splash around. World-renowned artists such as the Blue Man Group perform in the function rooms.
Caribbean flair at Hotel Treasure Island
The Hotel Mirage is connected by an elevated railway to the hotel complex Treasure Island, which takes you into an adventurous, Caribbean world. Every evening, the water show “Sirens of TI” takes place several times, which has a wild pirate adventure in the Caribbean as its theme and is set to lots of music.
Those who stay at the hotel are allowed into the VIP area to experience the show up close. Furthermore, there is a permanent performance series of Cirque du Soleil’s “Mystère” event at Treasure Island, which delights audiences with its own magic.
Frenetic stay at the Hotel New York New York
The Hotel New York New York is located across the street from the MGM Grand Hotel. Its 48 floors, casino, shopping mall, golf course and six restaurants are standard fare in a city like Las Vegas.
However, the complex gets an extraordinary character from the fast-paced roller coaster that circles the building.
Its cars are modeled after the typical yellow taxis of New York. The name of the hotel has also been taken up in the design of the complex. This represents in stylized form the world-famous buildings of the metropolis on the east coast of the USA, which include the Chrysler Building, the Statue of Liberty and the Empire State Building.
Hollywood magic at Hotel Planet Hollywood
The Planet Hollywood Resort and Casino is one of the largest casinos in the city. It used to be called the Aladdin Hotel and got its fame from the wedding of Elvis and Priscilla Presley at the time.
Major renovations made the complex shine anew, giving it a new name. The hotel’s landmark remains the large neon wonder lamp, which cost US$750,000.
One of the hotel’s special features is the “Pleasure Pit” casino, where female croupiers work in lingerie. Go-go girls also dance on a small stage for entertainment. Of course, there is also an entertainment program for all ages in the function rooms.
