Svolvaer is the regional capital of the Norwegian archipelago of Lofoten, located near the Arctic Circle.

Svolvaer is a good starting point for boat trips through the islands of Lofoten, or to cross over to one of the other islands.

Just once inhabited by 4,000 people, the town is a port of call for many tourists, especially in the summer, who come there to experience the days of Midsummer’s Eve.

Svolvaer is a typical place in Norway, as you would imagine a fishing port. Directly adjacent to the harbor is a mile with bars, restaurants and pubs , before here you can enjoy the hustle and bustle in the harbor, comfortable with a cold Norwegian beer.

Attractions in Svolvaer are the extensive war museum, which deals with the events of the Second World War in Lofoten.

Art lovers will find numerous studios of well-known and still unknown Norwegian artists in the town, so they can directly purchase one or the other work.

Leisure activities in Svolvaer

Svolvaer can also be used as an entry point for a trip on the Norwegian Hurtigruten. In the past, the ships served mainly as mail and supply ships, but today the tourist load of the ships has increased enormously.

On the other hand, many cruise ships use Svolvaer as a stopover for cruises to the Eternal Ice of the North Pole.

It’s also worth renting a car, as the larger main islands are connected by tunnels and bridges.

When doing so, however, be aware of the 90 km/h speed limit in Norway, as the penalties for speeding are extremely high.
