Discover Adelaide by Hire Car
The megacity of Adelaide is located on the Saint Vincent Gulf on the Pacific coast. It is the capital of the state of South Australia.
The city core consists of the districts North Adelaide and Adelaide, which are surrounded by parks. Here the Torrens River flows along. The city area continues to include 250 surrounding towns.
The centre of Adelaide was planned and built as a pure business district. However, the city also became known throughout Australia for its major festivals.

Exploring the Adelaide area
For those who come to Adelaide and don’t want to explore the surrounding area by foot, bike or tram, it’s a good idea to hire a car.
That way, you can take trips into the mountainous hinterland, for example to the Mount Lofty lookout, with views all the way to Kangaroo Island, which can be reached by ferry.
Beware, however, that not every hire car company allows you to use a ferry with your hire car, or your insurance cover is cancelled during a ferry crossing.
South Australia’s oldest national park, Belair National Park, is about half an hour’s drive south of the city. Also worth a visit are Warrawong Game Reserve and Cleland Wildlife Park.
Wine lovers are sure to seek out Varossa Valley or Mac Laren Vale. Six of Australia’s top ten wines are made here. The vineyards are about an hour’s drive from the city centre.
