Discover Kalmar by Hire Car
Kalmar is one of the most popular starting points for trips to the Swedish countryside of Småland.
It is located in the south of Sweden right on the Kalmar Sound, a strait that separates the Swedish mainland from the island of Öland.
Kalmar has developed over the past centuries from a fishing village to a large city fully developed for tourism.
Today Kalmar has about 35,000 inhabitants and is thus great exactly to be considered the capital of the region, which therefore also bears the name Kalmar län. Touristically, the Kalmar is particularly interesting as a starting point for trips to the surrounding area.
Exploring the Kalmar area
In close proximity to the town you will find numerous old villages, Swedish manor houses and beautiful landscapes.
To get around easily, it is advisable to book a hire car, as the public transport network is virtually imperceptible outside the towns – it is that thin.
In Kalmar itself, however, there are plenty of hire cars available and you can quickly find something to suit everyone’s taste.
Find the right car in Kalmar
In some circumstances it is even worth renting an off-road vehicle in the region around Kalmar, because many paths and “roads” that lead to beautiful places are virtually impassable with a normal car.
Here it makes itself quickly positively noticeable if one has a vehicle with four-wheel drive and the roads simply quite normal can drive.
