Discover Fethiye by Hire Car
The Turkish city of Fethiye is located in the southwest of Turkey on the Mediterranean coast and belongs to the province of Mugla. It has about 45,000 inhabitants.
North of the city rises the Boncuk massif, in the east joins the mountain range Antitaurus with peaks over 2000 m high.
From the beach of the suburb of Calis, there is a good view of the snow-capped mountains. Fethiye is the centre for catering to the rural population and has little industry, limited to small craft and industrial businesses.
General information about Fethiye
The main economic activity of the region is tourism. Despite mass and package tourism, the town has retained a small-town character.
No high-rise buildings have been built. Hotel complexes are located in the suburbs with beaches.
The suburb of Calis has a sandy beach about five kilometers long. This is where most of the facilities for tourists are located. The famous white beach of Ölüdeniz is fourteen kilometers away.
Sights in Fethiye
A small natural harbour with a seafront, a marina and several dive centres are located in Fethiye.
The ancient city center was almost completely destroyed in 1957, so that you can only visit parts of the old town with a museum and the historic hamam above the mosque “Eksi Cani”.
Many visitors come for the Lycian rock tombs, which are located above the town in a steep slope, like the temple tomb of Amyntas.
Some Lycian sarcophagi can be seen, scattered around the old town.
