Parga is one of those small Greek towns that are not easily found in the usual brochures. Sign of these towns is usually a location shielded by mountain slopes on beautiful bays and beaches.
Parga is also in such a location. Located 40 km south of the port city of Igoumenitsa, it belongs to the circle of towns on the west coast of Greece and the Ionian Sea.
Sights in Parga
To the semicircular bay with an extensive beach, the promenade adjoins with a street layout. In the immediate vicinity, typical of the Greek coastal and island landscape , are the islands of Paxos and Antipaxos.
The site of Parga has had significance in 1570 for the Venetians, who at that time built a fortress on a hill overlooking the present town. It is worth visiting not only for the contemporary architecture, but also for the beautiful views over the town, the picturesque beaches, the bay, but also the rugged coastline.
Parga itself awaits with a winding city centre, in which 2500 inhabitants reside, and the aforementioned promenade.
Arrival to Parga
You can reach Parga either by land or by boat. From Prevezza, to the north, with its airport, the main road and a small branch lead into the town. Irregular buses and hire cars are the best means of travel here.
Ships carrying explorers from Corfu and Paxos like to head for Parga mainly for its fortress.
