Alexandroupolis, a Greek city located in the northeast. It is located there in the well-known region of Thrace, in the province of Evros, very close to the Turkish border.

As the capital of the region of Thrace and the administrative headquarters of Evros Province, it received its name from King Alexandros I in 1920 after it was granted to Greece in the Treaty of Sèvres.

Originally Alexandroupolis was built by an architect of Russian origin in 1878 and was in the meantime in Ottoman and Bulgarian possession. About the port located in the city, there is the possibility of numerous boats and ferries to the neighboring islands of Limnos, Rhodes as well as Samothrace to perceive.

Furthermore, the port offers one of the landmarks of the city, the lighthouse (“the Fáros”), for sightseeing.

Exploring the surroundings of Alexandroupolis

The famous cosmopolitan city of Istanbul in Turkey is also only about a 3-hour drive from Alexandroupolis and can be visited by hire car, provided the hire car company approves the trip to Turkey (be sure to check the rental terms).
