Discover Hannover by Hire Car
Hanover, the capital of Lower Saxony, is not only a world-renowned trade fair and congress city, but this city in the countryside offers its visitors many tourist attractions.
The excellent transport connections by motorways, a large airport and a splendidly developed main railway station, allow short travel times.
Sights in Hanover
All transport hubs offer visitors plenty of opportunities to hire hire cars to explore Hannover on their own. The old town is the showpiece of the state capital. The image of the old town centre is defined by closely built half-timbered houses from the Middle Ages in extremely narrow alleys.
Parallel and across the Leine run these small streets, typical of a merchant settlement from the 12th century. In this district, visitors will find particularly interesting little boutiques, noble shops, bistros and cafes that invite you to wonder, look and buy.
In the heart of the old town stands the 14th-century Market Church and the Old Town Hall, which dates back almost 100 years. The oldest part of the architectural masterpiece is dated to 1410.
Around the Market Church, a huge Christmas market takes place every year, which attracts not only numerous Lower Saxons. Crowd puller is still Hannover’s landmark: the New Town Hall from the last century, which was solemnly inaugurated by Kaiser Wilhelm II in 1913. This coveted photo motif has two special features: the building is constructed on 6026 beech piles and has a sloping lift that takes visitors to the viewing platform. From there, guests can expect a unique view over the whole of Hanover.
