Sights in Hamelin
The historic old town is almost entirely characterised by beautiful half-timbered buildings, with the Pied Piper House being particularly noteworthy.
However, the Stiftsherrenhaus as well as the Dempter-Haus are also unique buildings from the 16th and 17th century, respectively, which should not be missed on any sightseeing tour. The Leist House, dating from 1589, now houses the town’s local history museum and for that reason alone promises an educational and interesting afternoon.
On the façade are images of the seven virtues and Lucretia greets visitors from the Erkergiebel. In the Wedding House, a carillon delights all who wish to hear it daily at 1:00 pm and 5:30 pm. The figure circuit depicts scenes from the ubiquitous Pied Piper saga.
The Minster Church of Saint Boniface is a stately sacred building in the heart of the town of Hamelin. The crypt inside it is dated to around 800 AD, making it one of Hamelin’s oldest church buildings.
