In the Upper Bavarian district of Freising lies the medieval town of the same name.
Freising’s landmarks can be seen from afar, as they are an ensemble of towers reaching high up.

This includes the 84-metre-high tower of the town’s parish church of St George, whose spire can be climbed every Saturday afternoon.
From up there you have a breathtaking view over the city. The towers of the Freising Cathedral, the towers of the Saint Peter and Paul Monastery and the water towers of the oldest brewery in the world, the Weihenstephaner Klosterbrauerei are an integral part of the ensemble.
In a city with a brewery of this age and experience, a visit to the Gräflich von Moy’schen Hofbrauhaus is well worth it. Sitting together in a cosy atmosphere, enjoying culinary delicacies from the Upper Bavarian region and a pint of cool refreshing beer is the epitome of cosiness here.
In and around Freising there are around 250 buildings that are listed as historic monuments. For this reason alone, a tour of the town is worthwhile and a hire car will serve you well in your search for the protected monuments.
The Ziererhaus is another highlight the city has to offer. Lavishly decorated with stucco work from the late 18th century, the house is one of the most expressive buildings from the Rococo period. In the immediate vicinity of Freising you will find the small picturesque pilgrimage chapel “zum gegeißelten Heiland”.
In addition to the sacred buildings, whose towers are among the landmarks of the city, there are still a variety of ecclesiastical buildings that should not be missed on any city tour, including, for example, the Pallottine Church of Saint John the Baptist or the parish church of Saint Lantpert.
