Sights in Cuxhaven

Worth seeing here is especially the port, which of course impresses with its multitude of cruise and seaside ships.

You can enjoy the magnificent panorama of the city and the lively and colourful hustle and bustle at the harbour on a trip with a passenger ship.

The city’s landmark is the Kugelbalke, where a lighthouse used to stand, marking the end of the Elbe and the beginning of the North Sea. At the same time, this mark the northernmost point of Lower Saxony.

Accessible to visitors and a true contemporary witness from 1340 is Ritzebüttel Castle. On the landscaped park paths around the castle and its moat are also still the Schweizerhaus and the war memorial.

Directly at the “Alte Liebe” stands the Hamburg lighthouse. Unfortunately, its beacon has already gone out and the tower itself has become private property. However, you can still imagine how it guided the ships and their captains through the seas.

The tidal flats, on whose shores you can wonderfully experience the tides, are part of the Lower Saxony Wadden Sea National Park and also a World Heritage Site.

This completely untouched nature is home to the breeding grounds of several native bird species, such as the oystercatcher, the herring gull and, in small numbers, the sand plover.
