The major Turkish city of Kayseri is the capital of the province of the same name, located in Cappadocia, a part of central Anatolia.

The city has a population of around 500,000. Kayseri is located at the foot of the no longer active volcano Erciyes, which is 3917 meters high.

The eruptions of this volcano were instrumental in the formation of tuff layers in the region.

Today, the slopes of Erciyes are home to a well-known winter sports and ski resort that attracts many tourists.
