Discover Dessau by Hire Car
In the midst of an extensive floodplain landscape in Saxony-Anhalt is the beautiful city of Dessau-Roßlau.

Sights in Dessau
Of particular tourist importance is Dessau, whose Bauhaus style achieved worldwide fame. These Bauhaus buildings were added to the UNESCO World Heritage List in 1996.
An absolute highlight here is the famous Bauhaus, which was built in 1925/1926 according to the designs of Walter Gropius. “Form obeys function” was the idea of the founder, who integrated the expansive ensemble of steel, glass and concrete without any superimposed effects.
Other sights -especially for art and culture lovers- are Georgium Castle with its picture gallery, Mosigkau Castle with its maze in Mosigkau Park and the impressive Castle Church of St. Mary. The Museum of Natural History and Prehistory promises an interesting afternoon worth knowing.
Minerals and fossils can be seen here as well as showpieces from botany and zoology. When touring Dessau-Roßlau, the nationally renowned Garden Kingdom of Dessau-Wörlitz is an absolute must.
Exploring the surroundings of Dessau
Between Dessau and Wörlitz stretches an enchanting cultural landscape with charming castles and parks, nestled between lakes, river courses, meadows and forests.
Here you should also not miss the Luisium Palace with its adjoining park in the Waldersee district to the east of the town centre. If you want to indulge in old German dishes and regional specialities, the Mariannenklause is the place to go.
A trip by hire car to Wörlitzer Park, 25 kilometres away, is also highly recommended. This magnificent park was designed between 1765 and 1810, making it one of the first landscape gardens on the European mainland.
