Discover Antalya by Hire Car
Where you spend your holiday on the Turkish Riviera depends on your own preferences.
But a visit to Antalya should be mandatory, because nowhere else on the coast, you can get to know the Turkish everyday life better.
To be more independent, a hire car is ideal, especially on the Turkish Riviera. But it is important to know that downtown Antalya has an incessant traffic chaos, where no normal driver should venture.
Therefore, be sure to pull into one of the gated parking lots just outside the center. And then into the fun
Sights in Antalya
If you visit the upper part of Antalya first, with its great markets and varied shopping, this is a disadvantage, as otherwise you will have to carry your shopping through the beautiful, sometimes very steep old town.
This is why it makes more sense to head towards the port first, which is surrounded by Antalya’s massive city walls.
This is where the excursion boats are moored, providing their guests with really nice pictures of the city from the water.
At the harbor itself, there are a few restaurants that serve surprisingly good food, and at really reasonable prices.
In the old town itself, there is one of the few mosques that you can also visit from the inside – but only for tourists who are also dressed accordingly. Otherwise, the romantic narrow streets are lined with numerous small shops selling mostly handicrafts.
Shopping in Antalya
Once back up in Antalya, the markets await their shoppers. The most interesting is undoubtedly the spice market, with its incredible scents. At the others, there are a lot, but also well-done fakes of watches and textiles.
As Antalya is very branched out, you have to remember your parking place well, otherwise finding your hire car is a lottery.
