Exploring Trento by hire car

Trento, or “Trento” in German, is located in the far north of Italy in the autonomous region of Trentino-Alto Adige.

A magnificent cathedral, a mighty fort, interesting museums and a picturesque city centre with pretty Renaissance palaces – Trento is a hotspot for tourists from all over the world.

And there are also many enchanting places in the surrounding countryside that can be easily reached by hire car. For rental and travel we have compiled a few tips.

Taking over the hire car

Many hire car customers reach Trento by train. By Eurocity, the journey time from Munich, for example, is just four and a half hours. Since there are no hire car stations at Trento train station, you should find out exactly where your station is located before booking the car. This will save you a long odyssey through the city.

Booking the right hire car

As in any city with a population of more than 100,000, parking spaces are often in short supply in Trento. So it’s better to book a smaller car that’s just big enough to hold your holiday luggage. This will allow you to take advantage of tight spaces.

Hire car prices

Hire car prices in Trento are usually in the middle range. However, as many rental companies charge extra, you should study the rental terms carefully before booking. You can often get the cheapest deal by booking well in advance of your trip and using our handy price comparison tool.

Insuring the car properly

With an unfamiliar hire car, it’s easy to have an accident in Trento’s turbulent city traffic. Protect yourself and book a car with comprehensive insurance without excess. With liability insurance, it is important to pay attention to the amount of coverage. It should be at least one million euros, so that you enjoy at least some protection if people are injured in an accident or several vehicles are involved.

age limit

Unlike many other Italian cities, there are rental companies in Trento that will rent to 18-year-olds. However, with most hire car companies, you must be at least 21 years old. And drivers younger than 25 often pay an additional fee and can’t book certain vehicle categories. Check your rental company’s terms and conditions before you reserve the car.

Accessories

Accessories such as child seats or a navigation device must always be ordered separately. Make a reservation in good time so that your desired equipment is also available at your station on the day you pick up your car.

Tank control

Some rental companies secure extra income by requiring customers to buy the first tank of fuel for a costly service charge. The car can then be returned empty. In practice, however, when the car is returned, there is almost always some petrol left in the tank, which of course is not refunded. To save yourself the cost of the remaining petrol and the service charge, you should always book with a rental company where you pick up the car with a full tank and return it with a full tank.

Bail

Be sure to book with a rental company that only blocks the deposit for the car on your credit card. This is because if the money is charged, it can sometimes take a long time before the hire car company transfers the amount back to your account. Also, before you travel, make sure that the credit card on your card is sufficient to cover the deposit.

Customer Satisfaction Hire Car

Although most customers are satisfied with their hire car service in Trento, make sure you take a good look at your hire car when you pick it up. Have damage such as dents or scratches confirmed in writing by your rental company in a fault report and keep the document safe. In this way, you can avoid being held liable for damage that you did not cause when you return the vehicle.

Safety hire car

As a rule, you can expect to get a roadworthy car in Trento. However, as there can always be exceptions, you should test all of your car’s lights before your first drive. In addition, do a little brake test in the parking lot and make sure you have high-visibility vests for all passengers, a warning triangle and first-aid kit on board.
