But the monument that was built between 1932 and 1933 to commemorate the soldiers that died in the first world war has the advantage that one can get to the top by a lift. Colonne Romane: Roman Column
Journey far into Brindisi’s history when you visit the Colonne Romane. The mighty column dates back to the second century AD. Originally, two columns stood here, marking the end of the Via Appia.

Museo Archeologico: Experience the past
Visitors can get a comprehensive overview of the history of the city and the region at the Museo Archeologico. Here, among other things, you can expect to see votive figures made of terracotta, including a Venus from the third century BC. At the Chiesa San Giovanni al Sepolcro, you have the opportunity to admire an ancient church. It was built around 1100 AD, modelled on the Church of the Holy Sepulchre in Jerusalem.

Piazzo Mercato: Lively market hustle and bustle
On the Piazzo Mercato you can then enjoy the bustling life. Merchants sell here food from the region and all over the world. Afterwards, you still have the opportunity to go on an extensive shopping tour on the elegant Corso Garibaldi, a large pedestrian zone.

Since most tourists only stop in town for a short time, there are few hotels. We recommend the Hotel Internazionale. It was built in the early 19th century and impresses with its elegance. The rooms are comfortable and the location is central.

Continue your journey in three quarters of an hour to Bari. Here, especially shopaholics will be happy, because in the modern new town, boutique after boutique is lined up. All Italian designer brands but also international labels are represented. Those who prefer to take it easy can stroll through the alleys of the old town where families sit in front of the houses, chatting and forming the typical orecchiette pasta by hand.

Taranto: Important Museum
Before you head back to Brindisi in your hire car, you could stop off in Taranto. In just over an hour, you will have reached your destination. Taranto is a worthwhile destination, especially for those interested in history, as it has an archaeological museum that is one of the most important in Italy.
