Discover Calvi by Hire Car
The French town of Calvi is located on the northwestern coast of the Mediterranean island of Corsica, on the foothills of the Corsican Mountains.
It is the capital of the Balagne region.
A hire car will give you the independence you need to discover the city and its surroundings.
Sights in Calvi
The port city has a ferry port and a marina. Along the port runs a picturesque promenade with numerous small shops and restaurants, from the terraces you have a clear view of the sea. On a peninsula off Calvi is the town’s imposing citadel. This medieval fortress is best explored on a walk.
Calvi was built right on the mountainside of Capu di a Veta and consists of a lower and an upper town. The lower part of the town is home to the port, as well as the historic town hall and the town’s market square. The old market hall is surrounded by well-preserved porticoes and is one of Calvi’s most important sights.
In the upper part of Calvi lie the Governor’s Palace and the medieval fortress. From here you have a beautiful view over the Corsican coastal landscape with its rugged cliffs. Calvi also has a six-kilometre-long sandy beach, which already begins in the city area. It slopes gently down to the water and is therefore also well suited for families with children.
Discovering the Calvi area
Those who want to spend more than a beach holiday in Corsica should take the opportunity to hire car in Calvi.
It’s worth exploring the unique mountainous landscapes inland from Corsica and Calvi’s neighbouring towns, such as the small port town of Ile Rousse, are also well worth a visit.
