Discover Salo by Hire Car
The south of Finland is considered busy. But that mainly refers to the larger cities in the area.
Outside the settlements, visitors encounter the image they inevitably associate with the name Finland. Forests, lakes and tucked away, dark red holiday and summer cottages, with their typical white window crosses.
On one of the main arteries in the south of the country, the E18 between Helsinki and Turku, lies Salo.
A stone’s throw only to the Baltic Sea and the filigree of countless islands and islets. Some no bigger than your own front garden at home.
Sights in Salo
The small town of Salo, which for once has not become known for wood processing or winter sports activities, presents itself to its guests in the usual rural Finnish flair, with a touch of nostalgia. The modern architecture of the present is an admirable contrast. A lot has happened in Salo in terms of urban development. The electronics company Nokia, among others, provides jobs. Expansion is pre-programmed.
In the city there are quite a few gastronomic establishments specialising in “perinteisiä kotiruokia” traditional Finnish home cooking. A visit is always worthwhile and those who have not yet broken their tongues ordering the delicacies will finally get the chance to do so. Money can also be spent shopping. Opportunities to do so can be found aplenty.
Exploring the surroundings of Salo
Famous, even world-famous places in the immediate vicinity, want to be visited. If you don’t have a vehicle, you’ll need a hire car: from the E18, which stretches from St. Petersburg in Russia to Belfast in Northern Ireland with two maritime interruptions, you can take a few detours into the surrounding area, for example to Turku or Helsinki.
