Newcastle, which looks back on almost a thousand years of history and was once a Roman fortress on Hadrian’s Wall, is now well on its way to becoming a cosmopolitan metropolis. Numerous art galleries, including the famous Laing Art Gallery, have set up shop here in recent years.
In particular, the old industrial buildings have been used for art projects of this and other kinds since the decline of the steel industry. Also great masters like Rembrandt, van Gogh or Renoir, can be seen here. Another work of art of modern architecture is the concert hall “The Sage” in Gateshead, which was designed by currently probably England’s most famous architect Sir Norman Foster.
