The archaeological site of Yagul is located about 36 kilometers from Oaxaca, excavation finds include a ball court, a labyrinth-like palace and underground burial chambers.

The Mitla archaeological site (1000 to 1500 AD), the City of the Dead, is located about 45 kilometers from the city of Oaxaca. The excavation finds include five palace complexes. According to UNESCO, the city of Oaxaco is a world heritage site.
