The port is also home to Mexico’s largest shrimp fishing fleet.

Traces of a long history can be found almost everywhere in the core of the large city. The historic old town, “Centro Historico”, is characterized by magnificent, lavishly restored colonial-style buildings.
One of Mazatlan’s landmarks is the cathedral. In addition to several parks, the old town is home to many galleries, shops and charming cafés.
The “Plazuela Machado” with the famous multi-arts theatre Angela Peralta is the cultural centre of the “Centro”. In the evenings, street artists, dancers and singers perform there. On weekends, the district is closed to traffic after sunset.
Directly in front of the old town, on a rock in the sea, stands the old lighthouse “El Faro”, which still lights the way for ships to the port.
