A centrepiece of Leon is its historic old town, with its neoclassical sandstone buildings and its large open squares, around which numerous cafés, bars and restaurants are clustered.
Of particular interest are the Plaza Principal, Plaza de Los Mártires and Plaza de los Fundadores. Also located here is the Archivo Historico with numerous artifacts from pre-Columbian times and the Museo Arte Sacro with exhibits of sacred art.
In stark contrast to Leon’s old town is the modern centre with its ultra-modern office and commercial buildings. Here, mainly mirror-glassed towers of chrome and steel dominate the cityscape and accordingly reflect the hustle and bustle and traffic of an innovative metropolis.
