Road Trip Guadeloupe – Tropical Island with French Flair
Basse-Terre – Cosy Capital
Start your trip in Basse Terre, the capital city. With a population of just over 11,000, it’s a more leisurely place. Basse Terre on Guadeloupe does not have a lot of famous sights, but the Caribbean flair will quickly enchant you. A visit to the cathedral Notre Dame de Guadeloupe is also worthwhile.
Stroll through the streets, sit down in a café or bar and observe the locals. You’ll quickly get a feel for the island lifestyle. If you only spend your holiday on the beach, this will remain hidden from you. You should definitely visit the market of Basse Terre. A variety of spices fills the warm air with exotic scents here – a magical place.
On to the volcano
From Basse Terre it is only a short drive to the volcano Soufrière. It towers over the island with a height of 1,467 meters. The volcano can be climbed. Since the last part is quite steep, you should definitely wear sturdy shoes. Warmer clothing is also advisable. At the summit, it can already get sensitively cool.
Relaxation at the picnic
In the Guadeloupe National Park, the next destination beckons, “La cascade aux écrevisses” In the middle of the jungle, a small waterfall and a lake enchant the hiker, who can take a dip in its clear waters. The locals love to picnic at this idyllic spot. Perhaps you too will take some provisions from the market on the trip.
In Wild Nature on Bad Roads
The “Le saut de l'Acomat” is also worth a visit. Here you can expect another beautiful waterfall in wild jungle landscape. However, it is not easy to reach, because the road is very bad. If you still want to visit it, you should have an off-road vehicle.
Caribbean beach holiday at the end
Sainte-Anne offers a beautiful beach and an idyllic small-town atmosphere. You might enjoy a cool tropical drink at a beach bar. Afterwards, you can lie down on the snow-white, fine sand. Coconut trees provide shade, the sea rushes. Close your eyes and dream of the next stops on your Guadeloupe road trip.
