National Hire Car
In 1947, National Hire Car was founded by 24 independent hire car companies in Chicago. Since then, the company has been able to develop into an international rental company for automobiles and, together with its sister brand Alamo Rent A Car, is one of the very well-known representatives of this industry.
National Hire Car has a presence in more than 80 countries and maintains over 3,800 branches with more than 350,000 vehicles waiting for customers.
The regional focus of the once US-based company was initially North America. In 1988, National Hire Car was able to open its first stations in the UK, marking its entry into the European market. Just six years later, branches were opened in Switzerland as well as Germany, the Netherlands and Belgium.
In 1998, this venture is reinforced with more stations in these countries. More stations are established in Spain and France. This move was preceded by an acquisition of Republic Industries. Alamo, a specialist in vacation hire cars, is also part of this company. In the course of opening more stations, the Middle East as well as Africa regions have also been considered.
In 1999, branches in Italy, Greece and Portugal followed. In 2003, Alamo Rent A Car and National Hire Car in Germany operated under the name Autovermietung ANC GmbH & Co. KG. They are a 100% subsidiary of the British “ANC Rental Corporation Ltd”. In the same year, National Hire Car also received the “European Hire Car Company 2003” award, which is presented by the Institute of Transport Management (EITM).
