Dollar Rent A Car – the full name of the hire car company – is one of the five largest hire car companies in the world. Under the name “Dollar-Thrifty”, Dollar Rent A Car has been operating successfully under the umbrella of parent company Chrysler together with hire car company Thrifty since 1997.

Dollar was founded in 1965 in Los Angeles, California, where the hire car company resided until 1994. The company’s first fleet of cars consisted of a few VW Beetles without air conditioning. In August 1994, the headquarters were moved to Tulsa, Oklahoma. Now Dollar, which operates worldwide with a proven franchise system, has 629 stations in 52 countries. The company operates 359 stations in the U.S. and Canada. Add in Thrifty’s stations, and the Chrysler subsidiary has a total of 1,500 stations, a third of which are in the U.S. and Canada.

Dollar Rent A Car’s stations are located not only in central locations such as airports, but also in suburbs of large cities, especially in the US. In addition to hire car, Dollar also offers its customers other services. These include online flight bookings and hotel reservations in cooperation with major international partners.

Dollar’s fleet of vehicles offers a wide range, ranging from compact cars to station wagons and off-roaders. To increase customer safety, over 98% of the cars also have a passenger airbag. Customers can also book additional services. Among other things, Dollar installs child seats in its hire cars upon request. Disabled-accessible vehicles can be rented at most locations with 48 hours’ notice.
