Advantage Hire Car

The Advantage Hire Car success story began in 1963, when Three Ninety-Nine Car Rentals opened in San Antonio, Texas, primarily to provide hire cars to military personnel stationed in San Antonio.

At first, the company focused primarily on service to official government agencies. This was followed by a move into the leisure and tourism sectors, with stations at various airports in the western United States. In the mid-1980s, the company was renamed Advantage Hire Car. The company continued to expand in the 1990s and now has 150 locations throughout the United States.

In 2001, Advantage Hire Car launched a successful partnership program that quickly expanded into a successful global network. In addition to the 150 locations in the U.S., Advantage Hire Car now has a presence in 130 other locations in approximately 33 countries.

In December 2008, Advantage Hire Car was struggling with some economic difficulties and was initially acquired by Hertz Corporation, one of the world’s most successful hire car companies. With the acquisition, Hertz Corporation wanted to expand its own portfolio and further leverage the company’s strong network in the US. In 2012, Hertz announced the sale of Advantage Hire Car, and since then the company has been owned by “Macquarie Capital”.
