Exploring SEATTLE BY HIRE CAR
Seattle is a major American city in Washington state in the northwestern United States, with a population of just under 600,000 in an area of about 370 square kilometres.
Only 155 kilometers separate Seattle from the border with Canada. The metropolis, which was founded in 1869, received its name after a well-known Indian chief named “Chief Seattle”, who was also called an “ecological visionary”.
With numerous museums, a bustling downtown, an impressive skyline and a lively music and restaurant scene, Seattle is one of the most interesting destinations in the US.
And there are plenty of delightful places in the surrounding countryside, too, which are great to reach by hire car.
WHERE TO SEATTLE
You can enjoy a great view of the city and its surroundings when you ride up to the city’s landmark, the “Space Needle”, at the beginning of your sightseeing tour. An elevator will take you up the 185-meter tower, which also features a revolving restaurant in addition to an observation deck. Back on earth, you have the opportunity to enjoy the bustling life at Pike Place Market. Fishmongers loudly advertise their wares and nearby, vegetables and fruit, as well as antiques and handicrafts, are traded. The vegetable market is open daily from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm. You can watch the fishmongers at work from 07:00 to 18:00. You can buy handicrafts from 10:00 am to 16:00 pm. The other local shops are mostly open from 10:00 am to 6:00 pm.
Art lovers will then be drawn to the Seattle Art Museum. You can expect an extensive collection that includes mostly African or European art from centuries past. However, contemporary works are also on display. The museum is open from Wednesday to Sunday from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm. On Thursday, you can even visit the exhibition until 9:00 pm. A ticket costs $17.
If you want to recreate the time of the great gold rush, you can now visit the Klondike Gold Rush National Historic Park. The park is open daily from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm. Admission is free. Next stop on your city stroll could be the Experience Music Project. Even from the outside, the futuristic building is absolutely worth seeing. Inside, visitors can expect a comprehensive collection on the history of rock n’ roll. A ticket costs 20 dollars. The museum is open daily from 10:00 am to 7:00 pm.
Perhaps end your stroll at the Burke Museum. There you can see a well-stocked natural history and ethnology collection. For example, there are Native American totem poles to marvel at on the grounds. The museum is open daily from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm. A ticket costs ten dollars.
