The city of Lund is located in southern Sweden in the province of Skane (in historic Skåne). It is the eleventh largest city in Sweden and is part of the catchment area of the city of Malmö.

Lund is also called “university town “, because one third of the inhabitants are students. Around 41,000 study here at one of the largest universities in Scandinavia.

The town is considered the cultural center of southern Sweden and has applied to be the 2014 Capital of Culture. The town, with its medieval brick facades, is home to many theatres, cinemas and cafés, where readings are also held.

Lund’s landmark is the cathedral, which was built in the Romanesque architectural style. There are many old water towers in the city area.

The proximity to Malmö, 17 km to the south, makes day trips to Denmark a good idea. After crossing the Öresund Bridge, you can quickly reach Copenhagen, which is only 60 km away.

Free time activities in Lund

From Lund you can discover the surrounding area by bike. A day trip could take you to the island of Ven, to the memorials of Tycho Brahe.

Near Simrishamm you can visit Glimminge Castle. It is the best preserved medieval castle in Scandinavia. In Skane there are over 70 well-equipped golf courses and many horse farms.
