Discover Aveiro by Hire Car
Salt marshes, lagoons and canals characterise the valley on the west coast of Portugal where Aveiro is located.
Originally established as a port city, direct access to the sea was lost in the 16th century, resulting in a loss of economic power. It was not until the 19th century that dykes were used to reconnect the city to the sea.
Porcelain production, vehicle manufacturing, iron and steel industry, rice cultivation and fishing make it today once again the third largest industrial centre in Portugal, after Lisbon and Porto.
