Exploring the surroundings of Rimini
Just a few kilometres away, Emilia Romagna beckons with its true face. Gentle hills, lush flora, in between historical sites, medieval buildings, geological features. At the latest, when the sun starts to smile a little less, or the last few days have been too much for the skin, it is time to explore the surroundings. A hire car makes you mobile.
A few minutes’ drive outside Rimini, the quiet country life begins. San Marino, smallest city-state after Monaco, medieval centre, perched on a hill, rewards visitors with unique views over the Adriatic coast. On the way there, you will make a small detour to the famous quarries that extract Lava di Mar, that coarse crystalline stone that is used everywhere here to make beautiful benches and tables. In the evening, depart Rimini for the tourist centres to the south, equally busy and popular, yet each with its own unique charm.
A trip to Gabbice, the southernmost tip of Emilia Romagna, is also particularly rewarding; the landscape and cliffs will delight you. The next day we recommend a trip to Ravenna, a historical centre with many witnesses from the history of Italy. Here you will find winding streets, old churches and a romantic market square, whose cafes invite you to linger.
