Alexandroupolis, a Greek city located in the northeast. It is located there in the well-known region of Thrace, in the province of Evros, very close to the Turkish border.
As the capital of the region of Thrace and the administrative headquarters of Evros Province, it received its name from King Alexandros I in 1920 after it was granted to Greece in the Treaty of Sèvres.

Originally Alexandroupolis was built by an architect of Russian origin in 1878 and was in the meantime in Ottoman and Bulgarian possession. Today, the beautiful port city with its extensive history counts around 53,000 inhabitants and offers a wonderful holiday resort for true Greece -lovers who are also connected to nature.
The natural area around Alexandroupolis is considered relatively undiscovered and charming and is adorned with miles of beaches.
The town itself also has a traditional Greek ambience and with its narrow streets, lively cafes and typical Greek tavernas offers ample opportunities for a romantic but also sociable holiday.
About the port located in the city, there is the possibility of numerous boats and ferries to the neighboring islands of Limnos, Rhodes as well as Samothrace to perceive.
Furthermore, the port offers one of the landmarks of the city, the lighthouse (“the Fáros”), for sightseeing.
Exploring the surroundings of Alexandroupolis
The famous cosmopolitan city of Istanbul in Turkey is also only about a 3-hour drive from Alexandroupolis and can be visited by hire car, provided the hire car company approves the trip to Turkey (be sure to check the rental terms).
But neighbouring Greek towns such as Ormenio, Soufli and Didimoteicho are also worth a trip by hire car.
