Discover Liverpool by Hire Car
Liverpool is a port city in the northwest of England. With just under half a million inhabitants in around 112 square kilometres, it lies directly at the mouth of the River Mersey and has the second largest export port in the UK.
Since 2004, Liverpool’s historic Old Town and Albert Docks have been a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
In economic terms, the city benefits primarily from its huge port. As early as the beginning of the 19th century, 40 percent of the world’s trade was transacted here.

Besides the Albert Docks in the restored, historic docks of Liverpool, where there is also a museum on the history of the Beatles, the Liverpool Cathedral is especially worth seeing. The building in the style of monumental neo-Gothic is one of the largest churches in the world and from its tower you have a fantastic view of the entire city.
Of Liverpool’s many fine arts institutions, a visit to the Walker Art Gallery, with art spanning more than six centuries, and Tate Liverpool, an offshoot of the world-famous Tate Gallery, is particularly worthwhile.
Leisure in Liverpool
Liverpool became world famous not least because of the legendary Beatles, who emerged from the city’s music scene in the 1960s. But culture is still one of the important points of the city in the county of Lancashire, because in 2008 Liverpool is European Capital of Culture.
Liverpool has a whole host of clubs, bars and pubs that make the city’s nightlife in particular extremely attractive. A highlight of the scene here is the rock- n- roll club “Cavern Club”, known far beyond the borders of the metropolis, which was reopened in 1984.
Due to the vastness of the city, it is recommended to explore Liverpool with a hire car.
