Discover Freiburg by Hire Car
Freiburg, the fourth largest city in Baden-Württemberg, is a green city in Germany. Green in two respects: the city offers a lot of greenery in the city centre.
And the mayor has also been a greener for years: Freiburg’s residents value clean air and good living.
And Freiburg is spoiled by the climate: the average temperatures here are the highest in Germany. There is rarely snow in the city area, but there is in the foothills of the Black Forest, which can be seen from the city.
Sights in Freiburg
The old town is particularly worth seeing, with many alleys full of cafés, galleries, shops and gastronomy ranging from international to modern to rustic-Badish. The Minster in the city centre, with its 116-metre tower, is an excellent example of Gothic architecture.
The city was first documented in 1008, but was totally destroyed during the war. The reconstruction has been successful and offers a reflection of the atmosphere of a late medieval town. From the Schlossberg, which adjoins the old town, you have a fantastic overview of the city and the surrounding countryside.
From here you can already see the whole extent of the Rhine plain, can look as far as the Kaiserstuhl and the Vosges in Alsace. Freiburg is the gateway to the Black Forest.

The city is a good starting point for many tours into the Black Forest and the nearby Vosges Mountains.
Here, travelling by hire car is particularly suitable. There are plenty of hire car providers.
The combination of hire cars and urban living in average-priced hotels offers an attractive mix of the amenities of a mid-sized city with the extremely nearby secluded spots in the Black Forest.
