Discover Erlangen by Hire Car
The major city of Erlangen is located in the Bavarian region of Middle Franconia.
The best place to start a sightseeing tour here is in the city centre, which is well worth seeing.
Sights in Erlangen
In the city center, straight as a die street and square fronts are just as convincing as the uniform houses, almost all of which have only two or three floors, since Erlangen was, after all, built as an ideal city in the Baroque era.
Places for strolling, walking, seeing and being seen are far more than enough in Erlangen. Among the most important squares are Martin-Luther-Platz, Schlossplatz, Marktplatz and Hugenottenplatz, which should not be missed when exploring the city.
These worthwhile squares are also a popular meeting place for young and old. Around the hustle and bustle, a variety of bars, cafés and restaurants offer Bavarian or Franconian delicacies to go with the refreshing and delicious Erlangen beer.
For a journey back in time to the Middle Ages, the picturesque castle complex with the stately castle, the dreamlike garden, the Huguenot fountain and the former Concordia Church provides.
The church now serves as a geological institute and can therefore unfortunately no longer be visited as such. A hire car is an excellent way to explore and discover the sights inside and outside the city.
The oldest building in the town is the small unassuming Burgberg Chapel. This forms an ensemble with the Siechenhaus, which has a real story to tell.
Leisure activities in Erlangen
At Whitsun, the Bergkirchweihfest is celebrated here every year. This is a small folk festival in honor of the beer. During these days, Erlangen is transformed into what is probably the largest beer garden in Europe.
Another highlight is the art museum in the baroque Loewenichschen Palais and the many fountains that characterize the Erlangen cityscape. Thus the worth seeing Paulibrunnen, the Hugenottenbrunnen and the Delfinbrünnlein are not to be excluded from Erlangen.
