Sights in Kassel

An absolute highlight is the Bergpark Wilhelmshöhe with the castle of the same name and the Hercules, the landmark of Kassel.

In the middle of the Bergpark, William IX had a love nest built, the Löwenburg, where he could meet discreetly with his mistress.

The Hercules, a copy of the Farnesian Heracles unfortunately had to be restored during the Documenta 2007, but for that the “Kulturbahnhof” was finished in time.

In Wilhelmshöhe Palace there is a famous gallery of old masters with works by Rembrandt, Vermeer, Titian and Tischbein.

The water games are a special spectacle. Over hundreds of cascades, water flows down from the Hercules every 2nd Saturday of the month until it pours into an artificial pond above Wilhelmshöhe Palace.

The most beautiful sights in Kassel are quite far apart. It is therefore advantageous to take a hire car. The Karlsaue is the meeting place of the Jeunesse d’oree of Kassel. Not far away is the State Theatre with a renowned ensemble.

The Karlsaue finds its complement on the other side of the Fulda with the “Bugaseen”, which were created on the occasion of the Federal Garden Show in the 80s of the 20th century.The Brothers Grimm Museum in Wilhelmshöher Allee is dedicated to the Brothers Grimm, who had a close connection to Kassel.
