Until the late Middle Ages, it was one of the richest cities in France. The impressive basilica Saint Sernin in the Romanesque architectural style, which was completed in the early 12th century and is considered one of the most beautiful in the south of France, also dates from this time. No less interesting is the Gothic Dominican monastery of Les Jacobins, with its imposingly designed 13th-century vaulted ceilings, which also serves as the burial place of the famous philosopher and saint Thomas Aquinas.
One of Toulouse’s most fascinating secular buildings is the city’s town hall, built between the 16th and 18th centuries.
