The legendary Paris Eiffel Tower is a landmark that can’t be overlooked in the centre of this cosmopolitan city. It was originally built in 1889 by Gustave Eiffel to mark the 100th anniversary of the French Revolution. Every year, more than six million visitors climb the 300-metre-high steel construction, from whose platforms one has a fantastic view over Paris. Around the Eiffel Tower spread across the city, there are around 160 museums, about 100 theatres, 200 art galleries and over 10,000 restaurants, many of which have famous Michelin-starred chefs.
A visit to the artists’ quarter of Montmatre is essential when exploring Paris. The white basilica Sacré-Cœur on the 130-metre-high Butte Montmatre hill in the north of Paris shines like a dream. The funicular railway Funiculaire de Montmartre or the famous steps, which adorn endless postcards of Paris, lead to the highest elevation of the city. In the immediate vicinity is also the Place Pigalle with the legendary nightclubs Moulin Rouge and Lido, as well as the always lively, populated by many artists, Place du Tetre.
A tour of the Louvre, at the foot of the Eiffel Tower, and a stroll down the imposing Champs-Elysees boulevard, with its famous ateliers of intentional haute couture, are not to be missed.
