History of Kouvola
Visitors who want to browse Finland’s history will look in vain for buildings and evidence of times long past. What may be of interest is the history of the origins of Kouvola, which is now the capital of the Kymen-Lääni administrative district.
In 1870, the Riihimäki – St. Petersburg railway line is completed. The market town of Kouvola becomes an important junction in the history of the development of the Finnish railway. However, it was not until 90 years later that the town was granted the status of a town.
During the last war, the village was almost completely destroyed. In the years that followed, a modern town emerged in the south of Finland.

Rail, air and bus are good companions for the next few days and weeks, but they are also addictive and require meticulous and long-term planning. With the wonderfully developed road network, the thought of a hire car inevitably makes itself felt. A good alternative to public transport and it does not have to be for the whole holiday.
