Discover Pärnu by Hire Car
Pärnu is a town on the Estonian Baltic coast. The mild climate, the several kilometers long sandy beach and the extremely convenient location between the two major cities of Tallinn and Riga, have made this place a bathing and spa resort relatively early.
Even before the Second World War, the place was a popular destination for Scandinavian and German seaside holidaymakers.
Leisure activities in Pärnu
Since the collapse of the old Soviet Union, Pärnu has been modernized and is now a highly modern seaside resort of the Baltic Sea with many spa and bathing facilities, a large and clean beach, as well as a marina. Besides many Estonians, Pärnu is again mostly used by many Finns, Swedes and Germans as a holiday destination in the summer. Many Estonians often refer to Pärnu as the “summer capital”, as many Tallinn residents spend many weeks there in the summer.
In addition to the busy bathing crowds, visiting St. Elizabeth’s Church, St. Catherine’s Church, the Revaler Gate, the Red Tower and Villa Ammende is a successful diversion.
Another cultural experience are the concerts in the Kurhaus, which are held regularly.
Exploring the surroundings of Pärnu
Pärnu is also a good starting point for excursions to the Estonian capital Tallinn or to neighbouring Latvia with its capital Riga.
A tour to central Estonia or to the eastern areas towards the Russian border, as well as to the area of Lake Peipus are always worthwhile due to the magnificent countryside and the mostly open and hospitable people. These areas are best reached with a hire car rented locally, which can already be rented at reasonable rates.
