The Köbmandsmuseet in the Kastanie-Huset contains a merchant’s shop from the 1940s. Another excursion can take you to the castle mill.
St. Mary’s Church, a brick building with a 1962 remodelled tower that gives away its location from afar, is most interesting for its interior: it houses valuable epitaphs that leave the viewer in awe.

Sönderborg is particularly popular with tourists as a small harbour town. The harbor promenade is suitable place of a small walk, the adjacent houses are or have been beautifully renovated and fit very well with the elegant yachts anchored in the harbor.
Water also dominates the area around Sönderborg. Nevertheless, drivers unfamiliar with the area will find their way around very quickly, even with a hire car.
