Discover Odense by Hire Car
The city of Odense is located on the Danish island of Funen and lies on it in the far north, directly on the Odense Fjord of the same name.
Odense is now the fourth largest city in Denmark and a focal point for tourists holidaying on Funen.
Sights in Odense
The city itself was probably founded around 980 and has developed into one of the most important trading hubs along the Danish Baltic coast over the past centuries.
In recent decades, tourism has also become increasingly important as a source of income for the municipality, but trade still makes up the largest position on Odense’s annual revenue list.
Touristically, Odense is a firm favourite mainly because it is located in one of the most beautiful landscapes in all of Denmark – Funen. Fyn is considered the country’s “green island” and attracts tourists with endless coastlines, green hills, sleepy villages and beautiful small (and one large) towns (city).
Leisure activities in Odense
Fyn is also an Eldorado for tourists interested in sports. Especially the water sports, especially fishing, can be called here confidently as a “popular sport”. In recent years, Fyn has made a name for itself as an excellent sea trout fishing area, which also attracts German angling tourists to the island’s beaches in droves every year.
When on holiday in the Odense region, it is highly recommended that you hire a car, as without a car your mobility is significantly restricted.
There is also a network of public transport, but this is very thin, especially outside the towns. Since one would like to go as a vacationer also gladly times to the beach or into the lonely forests of the island, one is as good as lost without rented car.
